I haven’t shared this before. But Penguin Books Australia have signed me up to publish a book I wrote and illustrated called “A Patch from Scratch”. Its about one urban family’s journey into sustainable living in the city. I am working on a night scene today, where the family tries to find out what is eating their vegies. I’m finding it a bit tricky to get the light and dark into the scene. I thought I’d start off painting the scene in the daylight. Then I might hit my old art history books and find some info on painters using chiaroscuro techniques. Goya, Rembrandt etc. I never thought the old masters would come in handy when illustrating a picture book!
